Happy Accidents
What’s up, Humble Flexeurs! Today I want to share with you an encouraging thought I had yesterday coming back home from church with my family. On the way, we stopped at a 7- Eleven convenience store to get gas. As my dad pumped the fuel, my friends & I noticed a captivating sign saying, “Free Slurpee’s Limited Time Only! From 7/11-7/18.” We hopped out of the car and went to the store to claim our reward.
Heading home, our red, blue, and orange chill slushy beverages served as the perfect refresher for the hot Florida summer! As we slurped, I wondered how the iconic Slurpee drink first started.
The Accident
Asking my buddy “Google”, it turns out that back in the 1960s, an entrepreneur, leader*, and the owner of a Dairy Queen store named “Omar Knedlik” invented the frozen drink we love today by ACCIDENT! Yes, FRFR! One day, as he was selling ice cream, his fountain machine broke.

He decided to store all his soft drinks in the freezer. Customers immediately fell in love with the semi-frozen beverage (if you ask me, it’s kind of weird to order soda at an ice cream shop but, who am I to judge XD) and the rest is history, as they say.
The Comeback
Where there was a misfortunate event, Omar saw an opportunity & got to work. Crisis creates opportunities. Just like Omar, we all have our own stories of how life has tested us. Let me tell yah, that there is money in your testimony! Omar's family will continue to eat good for life as we continue to slurp! Today you may feel like your life out of order or falling apart but, I want to remind & encourage you that you are not an accident but God’s assignment.
As a young leader*, if you feeling demotivate and have lost sight of your vision for your business or personal life, I suggest you read "The Vision Driven Leader" as it will reignite your flex (vision) to impact the world. We talk more about this in the next blog.
